The Best Principals, School Heads and Teachers of the year award is one of the programmes put together to drive the ten-year nationwide effective reading campaign and it is aimed at promoting effective reading and research culture among Principals, School Heads and Teachers of both Secondary and Primary Schools in Nigeria. The process of selection of participants involves different schools sending the details of their teachers to us for documentation after which we officially inform the schools of the date of our screening exercise for the shortlisted teachers.
The interviews are both oral and written exercises and it involves some series of intellectual drilling of the teachers with the aim of producing the best participants out of them. Those that finally emerge are given cash prizes of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N150, 000. 00) only each to support their studies and personal research works while textbooks are donated to their school libraries to upgrade them with modern reading materials and some research materials too. in 2019, the event was held in 8 states which includes: Nasarawa, Kogi, Kaduna, Niger, Plateau, Bauchi, Sokoto and Kebbi states respectively. The 2020 edition of the event is expected to cover all the 12 states from the north and at least two states from each of the geopolitical zones across the nation.
The event has just been concluded in some of the states already and it’s ongoing in some other states. The 2020 edition of the best principals, schools heads and teachers of the year award is being organized in honor of HRH. Ibrahim Usman Jibrin the former minister for environment and the present Emir of Nasarawa a man who is so passionate about teacher’s development and empowerment. Perhaps, due to the fact that he started out in life as a classroom teacher.
As earlier stated, the aim of the event is to promote quality reading culture, celebrate diligence and professionalism among teachers of secondary and primary schools nationwide. Standtall Africa Initiative in collaborations with other educational partners pull resources together to organize this yearly event across both Secondary and Primary Schools in the different states of Nigeria.
