Corporate / Private Sector/Entrepreneurship
Prior to joining Academia, he worked in private sector in the United States of America in
varying technical, management and administrative capacities. In the private sector
chemical companies, he managed a cross section of multidisciplinary teams of scientists/
engineers in both the USA and Japan, where he was responsible for leading the product/

and commercialization through strategic partnerships. In these capacities, worked and
collaborated with several other multinationals from various sectors of the economy:
technology and manufacturing; intellectual property and Investment firms etc. in the
United States, Europe and Asia.
Prof. Katampe brought his knowledge and experience from corporate to bear on an
entrepreneurial effort. He envisioned a company that would be a global leader in
providing eco-chemical solutions by applying expertise in Advanced Material Sciences.
This led him to found Iya Technology Laboratories, LLC (ITL). As President and CEO,
he continued to ensure Iya’s global leadership by investing in intensive research towards
the development of Innovative Eco-Chemical Technologies for the manufacture of
quality products. Within a short time, this vision and drive resulted in the
commercialization of numerous market-changing products that were manufactured and
sold globally and in some retail stores in the United States and Canada.
He is a recipient of several awards including the prestigious Planet Africa Science and
Technology Award by the planet Africa Group, Canada; the SOIN award for Technology
Innovation by the Montgomery County, SOCHE Academic Leadership Fellowship, twotime recipient of NASA Faculty Research Fellowship and most recently a member of the
Center for the Advancement of STEM Leaders ( CASL)- 2019 cohort.
Even though in diaspora, Prof. Katampe has always been interested in contributing
his experiences and expertise in various aspects of nation building working with the
